Are Women Creative?

I recently heard a friend of mine state that she is not a creative type at all, but that simply cannot be! Women are creative by nature!

First of all, women create life, and what can be more creative than that? And, as moms, we have to be creative in millions of ways – just little things, like figuring out why your baby is crying takes a lot of creative imagination, blowing away the aouii after the 4-year old has skinned her knee, finding ways to make christmas a magical experience for all the little ones, figuring out how to make spinach lasagna when you forgot to buy spinach that day, getting your kids to stop fighting, and so on. The list is long…

So, if you start looking at how many times daily you have to draw from your creative resources, you would be very surprised. I am going to be bold enough to state that women are able to juggle house and children ONLY because they are creative enough to come up with solutions to just about anything that comes up at the spur of the moment. In fact, it is by living in a state of continuous creativity that we actually survive as moms!

And, if you wonder why women don’t have any memory after having children, this is why – because all her energy is brought to the present moment by always having to deal with issues here and now in creative ways. This is what men may have to meditate for years to achieve – we are lucky, for us, it just comes naturally as soon as children demand us to be present!

So, creativity doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to have something to show for it, like a painting or a new knitted sweater. Creativity is a way to live your life, and for some women it comes so naturally that they don’t even realize how creative they are. But, believe me, all women are naturally creative beings, every one in their own way. So, the next time you put a new and different dinner creation on the table, made with whatever you had in your fridge that day, remember how much creativity it took to pull it off, and honor yourself for being so creative…
