Negative Body Image

It is bikini season. I’ve been on another quest this summer – the quest for the perfect bikini, and now I’ve got 5 bikinis sitting in my room ready to be resold on ebay (sigh…). Why is it so hard to be happy with what we look like in a bikini? Most of us are not going to look like models after having kids & hitting menopause. Who are we trying to kid? It is easy to compare ourselves with younger, more perfect women, and to get negative about the parts that no longer fit that picture. But, are we actually making things worse by feeling negative about our own bodies?

I recently came across some pictures of water crystals from a Japanese scientist who has done studies on the effect of positive or negative thoughts on water. Bless the water, or love the water, and beautiful crystals are formed! Hate the water, and terrible looking crystals are formed!

Now take these findings, and realize that our bodies are over 60% water. If negative thoughts can affect the water crystals, it can do the same to the water in our bodies. And, how can the water be life giving and supportive of health and beauty, if we have destroyed the molecular structure with our hateful comments about ourselves?

Beauty happens from the inside out. By loving yourself, your water molecules will become beautiful, and this beauty will radiate through your whole system and give life and vitality to all your organs. Instead of looking in the mirror, noticing more wrinkles and sags and bags with a negative attitude, what about reminding yourself every day that menopause is about becoming a goddess (and a goddess of course, has to have curves…)

So, the next time you find yourself wearing a bikini, and some skinny gorgeous girl walks by, remind yourself that you are a goddess, and that curves are required – and your water molecules will dance with joy!

Is ADD a bad thing?

ADD – it stands for Attention Deficit Disorder. The diagnosis itself shows the arrogant and narrowminded lack of understanding in the people studying this phenomenon. What they are trying to describe, by calling it Attention DEFICIT, is that the individual can’t keep his focus on one single task long enough to get it completed before starting something else. But, does that necessarily mean that we are dealing with attention “deficit”? Or could it be because the person is so attentive that he will notice all kinds of other things as well? Maybe it is not a deficit at all? Maybe it is actually a natural survival mechanism?

Everyone knows how easy it is to distract a baby. Something happens, baby cries, and all you have to do is wave the rattle in front of his face, play peekaboo or sing a song, and he forgets the whole issue in a flash of a second. This is how we come in! This is how nature made us! This is what we are like before we are molded with expectations from the society, and maybe there are reasons why we should actually be that way!

From a survival perspective, paying attention to everything in our environment is very beneficial. This kind of awareness is actually essential when it comes to staying alive. And, anyone who is a mother, knows that this ability is also essential to the survival of her baby. We must always keep an ear open for what is happening with our children while we are doing other things.

Anyway, the definition of ADD is obviously made by men who only work in linear fashions, and there is a huge difference between men and women when it comes to this issue. Take a simple thing, like making lunch. If my husband goes to make lunch, he doesn’t care that the kitchen looks like the three little piggies live there, with dirty dishes and crumbs everywhere. He is only focused on making his lunch, and nothing else matters.

Compare that to what I do when lunchtime is there. I go to the kitchen and see the mess. I fill the tea kettle with water and turn on the water in the kitchen sink at the same time. Instead of pushing things aside to make a space for my sandwich, I scoop things into the sink so it can soak while I eat. As I go back to the fridge to get the cheese, I grab a sponge, dip it in the water, squeeze it and mop away the crumbs as I go. On the way back to the sink, I grab a cup for my tea. I empty the trash and turn off the water in the kitchen sink while waiting for my sandwich to toast. By the time it is done, the kitchen doesn’t look to bad, and it didn’t take me any longer to make my sandwich than it took for my husband to make his. But, I have “attention deficit,” and he doesn’t. Or, maybe he is the one with attention deficit, since he can only focus on one thing at a time???

Who knows? It is all a matter of perception, I guess…

Negativity is a Choice

What is your perception of life? Is it good to be alive, or do you hate it? Are you happy or depressed? With all the earth quakes, oil spills, disasters and the economy being so shaky, it is hard not to get sucked into fear and negativity. The problem is that negativity lowers your spiritual vibration, drains your energy and eventually makes you physically sick, depressed or both.

So, what is the solution? Denial? Positive thinking? No, there is a different way of dealing with chaos, upheaval and disturbing happenings. Understanding is the way…

We have to understand that anything that we see as evil, non caring or even ecologically disastrous appears because there is an absence of light, love or understanding in the individuals who are causing these happenings. Take the oil drilling company who caused the latest disastrous oil spill – they didn’t even consider what to do in the event of a blow out. All they were focused on was how to rape the earth and make a buck. They didn’t even consider what would happen to the oceans, the wild life or anything else. Why? Because they are on the level of the second chakra, which is only concerned with money and power. Love and care isn’t even part of their reality, because those are higher qualities that belong to the heart chakra.

So, we can sit and get negative about it. Why don’t they see? Why don’t they understand? Why don’t they care? They don’t care, because they are not at the heart level yet. They don’t see because they don’t have their eyes open yet. And how can you blame a blind person for not seeing???

What we have to understand is that only awareness and understanding can bring humanity forwards. Anything we do in darkness and lack of love will simply bring us down. It could even signify the end of the world as we know it.

The solution is an almost hopeless task, but as long as there is a ray of hope, it is worth doing what we can. The people who DO have eyes, awareness and a loving attitude must become examples to others. The mind is like scissors – it cuts things apart, critizices and becomes negative and angry, so that is not the solution. No, we must remember why we are here. We are here to make a difference, any way we can. We are not here to focus on everything that is wrong, and pick it into pieces, we are here to express a different way of life, a different perception, a different future…

Yes, many things are totally wrong out there, but does it benefit humanity if I get depressed, angry or suicidal about it? Would it help anyone if I killed myself just to escape from the madness? Or, would it benefit the world better if I teach gratefulness, creativity and beauty? Would it benefit the world more if I can inspire someone to find their own expression in life?

Negativity is a choice. We can choose to look at everything that is wrong in the world, or we can choose to focus on what we can do to make a difference. This is not positive thinking, because positive thinking is just the other side of negative thinking. It is simply a choice to not waste your energy on things that aren’t here and now, and that you can’t do something about directly. Do what you can, instead of focusing on what you can’t do anything about. That makes sense to me. If doing what I can makes me happy, my happiness will make a difference at least in my immediate surroundings. So, do what you can, and be happy! Don’t let the darkness and unawareness take you down. Bring in the light…

Mind is the problem

Here in the west, we are worshipping mind (which lives in the left brain). Mind is worshipped in the schools, at work and even in life. They teach our children to think, plan, memorize, criticize and be competitive. But in life, there always has to be a balance.

The law of balance is the most imporant law to understand. It affects everything in life. If you drink too much, you end up with a hangover, if you eat too much, you become too fat, if you sleep too much, you become lazy and won’t get anything done, if you get too greedy, you’ll lose all your friends, and so on. Anytime you can put the word “too” in front of what you are doing, you are basically doing something that is out of balance.

So, what is wrong with that? I like to think of balance as a pendulum. If you pull it all the way to the side, it is not in a stable space. As soon as you let go, the pendulum swings all the way to the other side, and then back again. Only in the middle is the pendulum iin a stable space. So, anytime you are doing too much of something, there will be a reaction to the other extreme.

So, how can we bring mind into balance? The only way to balance mind is to spend more time in your right brain. Your right brain is your connection to cosmos, to source, to inspiration, psychic insights and creativity. This is where we are meant to live. This is where we are in touch with life. And the mind on the other side is only supposed to be a tool for self expression and survival.

So, why are we worshipping the tool and forgetting our connection to source? Why are we teaching children to worship mind, when it will cause them to forget who they are? No wonder why most of the people on this planet feel like orphans and are wondering why they are here!

I have a wish for the future: That the schools will start to teach in a balanced way – teach the kids how to use mind, but also how to be intuitive beings who knows how to muscle test, use a pendulum, read tarot cards and generally learn to trust the inner voice that guides us.

So, when they teach children how to write, don’t ask them who it is for, and what is the plot, and where is the story going before it is even written! Just give them a general idea, and then ask them to close their eyes, go empty and wait for information to come to them. And, as soon as the words start coming, to write them down as fast as they can, before the info is lost. Editing can be done later! This is how you teach automatic writing that comes straight from the right brain.

The same thing goes for art. Have an idea, go empty, look inside and see what comes…

Every one of us are born with special abilities and talents. We just have to figure out how the universe wants to express itself through each one of us, and allow it to happen. Someone may be a writer, a musician, a great knitter, a great mother, you name it. We all have certain gifts that we came in with. But when mind is in control, it will always dissect, criticize and discourage us from expressing the divine. Very sad actually. The mind will cripple our natural beings, and still, we worship the mind, even though mind is pure madness, and by this I mean never here and now – always in the past or in the future, which actually doesn’t exist.

Mind believes that its perception of reality is real, and everything else is useless, but the truth is, it doesn’t even come close to what is real.
In the East, they know this, because they managed to find ways to go beyond the mind. Is it possible to stop thinking, and still be? Absolutely! Mind is the sickness, meditation is the medicine…

The children are our future. If only the teachers could find their way back to their own source and then teach our children! This is my wish and my vision for a better future – teaching the balance between mind and no-mind, teaching our children to live in both of those realities and to be able to use the mind as just a tool, which is what it was meant to be in the first place. I wish….

Life is a wave

If flows and it ebbs, like the waves in the oceans. This applies to everything in your life – your business, your love life, your health, your money flow. The mind likes to think that nothing changes, and that everything will stay fixed, as soon as you get things where you want them to be. But, the truth is, life can change any moment.

So, how do we deal with this kind of change? Well, we can either wait until the tides turn, or we can do whatever we are able to do and then trust that life takes care of the rest.

What does this mean, in practical terms? It means that we have to learn to live with insecurity. Insecurity has its own wisdom – although very uncomfortable for the mind! The mind is fixed, the mind needs to know, the mind likes to plan – this is all left brain stuff. But, life is not in touch with your left brain. Life connects with you through your right brain, and the left brain is just a tool for expressing the inspiration and creativity that comes in through your right brain.

This is a very scary thought – that we have to do what we can, and then trust life, but it is actually the only way, because we are co-creators with life. We ARE life, we ARE creativity, the energy of source, or GOD, runs through us and what we believe about life is reflected back to us from everywhere. So, we must become more aware, what we create, and how we use the power of life. And, we must surrender to the waves, coming and going. Trying to stop the wave from waving is like trying to push the river uphill. Forget it. Just hold a clear vision of where you are going, and then trust that sooner or later, you’ll get there…

Mind is like a yoyo…

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

I have a beautiful magnet on my fridge that says: “The heart was only meant to be, a little wild, a little free…” So, where is that wild and free heart? Where is the part of you that has the courage to be wild and free? Are you following your dreams? If not, that part of you has been suppressed. By who or what? If you guessed the mind, you are right.

The mind is like your personal inner nag and negative critic. It stops you dead in your tracks at the first hint of inspiration, before you even finish your sentence in your head. The mind is there with a big club, and your fragile sprout of an idea is dead before you even had time to give birth to it!

I don’t know if you’ve seen the movie “Under the Tuscan Sun.” This lady is on a trip to Tuscany and sees a poster of a lovely little house. Another woman sees her interest and asks, “Are you going to buy it?” And she answers: “Oh, no, I couldn’t possibly, it is a terrible idea!” The other one answers: “Yes, a terrible idea… don’t you love those?”

Those are actually your best ideas! The terrible ones! Those are the ones that makes your mind shiver with fears, buts and great arguments why it will NEVER work!!!

Why does this happen? Why do we have this inner sludge of negativity that stops us from living life with passion and zest? What is this “mind” anyway?

Mind lives in the logical side of your brain, the left side, and it is actually only meant to be a tool for your divine expression. Unfortunately, it has forgotten this, and now it tries to take over your life completely! It rules through logic, reason, criticizm and arrogance, and unfortunately, it has the power to stop us dead in our tracks.

Why does logic have this kind of effect on us? Very simple. When you allow your intuition to speak, it comes from a dimension beyond the known, and it speaks about ideas, things and places that are new to you. Things that you have never done before, or places that you have never seen. It comes from the unknown, and it tempts and ushers you into the unknown as well.

The unknown is not compatible with your mind. To the mind, this kind of behavior looks like sheer madness, so it will convince you that you are either mad, or you must come to your senses! And, then, it starts moving like a yoyo, from past to future and back again.

It convinces you that you have no past experience with what you are about to embark on, which means that you don’t know where you are going either. If you learn from your past, you won’t make mistakes in the future. If you have no past experience, your future will be nothing but a total disaster, with one mistake leading to another! And what is the point of that??? Be reasonable! Think before you leap! And, besides, you are too old, and it is too late, and you won’t be any good at it anyway…

Oh, so convincing. How can you argue with such logic and reason? You make a deep sigh and resign to the fact that no matter how attractive your new ideas are, and no matter how much you want to jump into something new with zest and passion, you can see your courage floating out the window and disappearing back to where it came from in the first place, the source of infinite possibilities and unlimited potential!

However, there is one major fault with the mind, which it hides beautifully, and that is the fact that the mind is never actually here…
It gets its arguments from the past, which is already gone, and it projects its gloomy predictions into the future, which hasn’t happened yet, and it never stops right in between past and future, which is where we are. The past is gone, and the future hasn’t happened. In fact, the future NEVER happens because it is ALWAYS NOW! Now is all there is. And, when we forget that, we give mind all the power to destroy our lives.

The fact is, the mind has no power in the now. It doesn’t actually exist in the now. Only life exists here, and now. So, if you feel that your life is boring, meaningless, and has lost its attraction, and you are no longer excited about anything anymore, it only means one thing – you have allowed your mind to destroy your life!

Once you see this, there is hope. Once you see this, you can start over. New slate, new ideas, here and now… Mind, go away with all your negative ifs and buts… I’m no longer interested. This is my life, and while I’m here, I’m going to make sure I live it! That’s right, life is here to be lived to the fullest! Don’t miss the opportunity… Seize the day….

Don’t Postpone Your Dreams!

A friend of mine is quite depressed about life in general – Why am I here? What is the point of everything? She hates her job, she hates her boss, and she hates her life…

The thing is, this girl has a very special talent – she is absolutely awesome at painting and making jewelry. Her whole house is full of incredible necklaces and paintings. Making things out of beads makes her both happy and inspired. So what is wrong with this picture?

As I see it, she wasn’t born to work in some dead end job that she hates. What is the point of giving her incredible artistic talents, if she is only supposed to work for someone she hates? There is no point, and that is the core reason for her depression.

We are here to allow God, the universe, or whatever you choose to call it, to express itself through form. Because we are all born with our own unique sets of talents, the expression is going to be different from person to person. But if we choose to not let God express itself through our natural talents, we are actually comitting a crime by going against life itself.

We are here to be hollow bamboos. All we have to do is allow the energy of God to move through us, and the hollow bamboo will sing its own song!

How can you possibly be depressed if you are allowing yourself to be a hollow bamboo, singing your own song of uniqueness? Depression is actually a sign that you are NOT allowing yourself to be a hollow bamboo. Depression is actually a sign that you are wasting your life. Your being knows this, and you, or should I say your mind, is not listening to your inner voice. What would you do in your life, if you didn’t have any worries or responsibilities? What did you love to do as a child? Children are often much more plugged in to their nature than grown ups are, because we have forgotten who we are and why we are here. Very sad…
Life is too short to waste any time. Live now, because now is all there is! And, stop postponing your dreams…

Forgiveness

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

Do you know why forgiveness is so important? Forgiving someone doesn’t mean that you accept that what they did to you was right. Forgiving someone means that you will no longer waste any energy on the past. And, why is that important?
Imagine this; you have a set amount of energy coming into you daily from the universe. This energy is for your body to stay healthy, and for you to have enough energy for your daily tasks, here and now. So, what happens if you waste a bunch of that energy on stuff that has already happened? If you do, you are basically financing your past, which is already gone by the way, with the energy that you have been given for your present life! So, what does this do? It becomes a constant energy drain. You don’t have enough energy for here and now, and you feel exhausted.

And, then, what do you do? As you keep pushing on, trying to do everything you need to do, and your energy is run down, you start taking the energy you need from your cell tissues. Result – sickness.

You can take energy from your tissues once in a while, when you need it, but if you do it on a regular basis, you are just draining your reserves, more and more, and there is no way you can keep doing that. Eventually, the body collapses.

So, what happens when we forgive? When you forgive someone, you are basically saying to yourself that you will no longer waste any energy on a certain issue in the past. It doesn’t mean that what they did was right – it simply means that you are taking your energy back. This is why, you must forgive the past and move on. Don’t let your energy linger in the past, or you WILL get sick. I don’t even have to be psychic to know that.

So, by forgiving what happened in the past and bringing all your energy here, you can actually allow yourself to heal and let go of old garbage from the past. This is why forgiveness is the most healing thing you can do for yourself.

Here is another lovely video from youtube about forgiveness.
