Hourglass figure

By mati | Filed in Fashion Tips

In our menopausal process of becoming goddesses, curves are needed, and our old wardrobe may not look right any more. Therefore, the clothing has to change as the body changes. Say goodbye to skimpy tops and belly showing. Say goodbye to miniskirts and fish net tights. But, this doesn’t mean that we can’t dress nicely. We just have to look for different types of clothes.

If your body starts looking like an hourglass, don’t try to hide it behind baggy, unshapely clothing. Think of your new curves as an assett, something that it is worth accentuating! So, how do you accentuate an hourglass figure?

Think fitted! Tailored jackets, figure skimming pencil skirts and fitted t-shirts, blouses or sweaters. This works much better than covering your body from the tip of your breasts to the sides of your hips with a long, baggy, boxy t-shirt. It looks much better if you dress in fitted clothing that follows your curves.

And, one more essential – a belt at the smallest part of the hourglass! This is important! It will flatter your figure more than anything.

If your smallest part is under your bust, choose empire or babydoll styles which accentuates this part. If your smallest part is at the waist, try a skinny belt with a beautiful buckle. If you are long wasted, a wider belt is nice.

I love the way it looks when you wear a longish fitted t-shirt with a belt at the waste! So don’t hide your curves – find new ways to show them off!

The power of love

By mati | Filed in Life

Somebody sent me this message today about a little boy who sang to his sister.

You are My Sunshine, My only Sunshine’
(Be prepared to get watery eyes!)

Like any good mother, when Karen found out that another baby was on the way, she did what she could to help her 3-year-old son, Michael, prepare for a new sibling.

They found out that the new baby was going be a girl, and day after day, night after night, Michael sang to his sister in mommy’s tummy.

He was building a bond of love with his little sister before he even met her.

The pregnancy progressed normally for Karen, an active member of the Panther Creek United Methodist Church in Morristown , Tennessee

In time, the labor pains came. Soon it was every five minutes, every three, every minute. But serious complications arose during
delivery and Karen found herself in hours of labor.

Would a C-section be required? Finally, after a long struggle, Michael’s little sister was born. But she was in very serious condition. With a siren howling in the night, the ambulance rushed the infant to the neonatal intensive care unit at St. Mary’s Hospital, Knoxville , Tennessee The days inched by. The little girl got worse.
The pediatrician had to tell the parents there is very little hope. Be prepared for the worst.

Karen and her husband contacted a local cemetery about a burial plot. They had fixed up a special room in their house for their new baby but now they found themselves having to plan for a funeral.

Michael however, kept begging his parents to let him see his sister. I want to sing to her, he kept saying.

Week two in intensive care looked as if a funeral would come before the week was over.

Michael kept nagging about singing to his sister, but kids are never allowed in Intensive Care. Karen decided to take Michael whether they liked it or not.

If he didn’t see his sister right then, he may never see her alive. She dressed him in an oversized scrub suit and marched him into ICU. He looked like a walking laundry basket.

The head nurse recognized him as a child and bellowed, ‘Get that
kid out of here now. No children are allowed!’ The mother rose up strong in Karen, and the usually mild-mannered lady glared steel-eyed right into the head nurse’s face, her lips a firm line.
‘He is not leaving until he sings to his sister’ she stated. Then Karen towed Michael to his sister’s bedside.

He gazed at the tiny infant losing the battle to live. After a moment, he began to sing.

In the pure-hearted voice of a 3-year-old, Michael sang:

‘You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy
when skies are gray.’
Instantly the baby girl seemed to respond. The pulse rate began to calm down and become steady.

‘Keep on singing, Michael,’ encouraged Karen with tears in her
eyes.

‘You never know, dear, how much I love you, please don’t take my
sunshine away..’
As Michael sang to his sister, the baby’s ragged, strained breathing became as smooth as a kitten’s purr ‘Keep on singing, sweetheart.’

‘The other night, dear, as I lay sleeping, I dreamed I held you in my arms’ Michael’s little sister began to relax as rest, healing rest, seemed to sweep over her.

‘Keep on singing, Michael.’ Tears had now conquered the face of the bossy head nurse. Karen glowed.

‘You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. Please don’t take
my sunshine away.’

The next day…the very next day. the little girl was well enough to go home!

Woman’s Day Magazine called it The Miracle of a Brother’s Song.

The medical staff just called it a miracle.

Karen called it a miracle of God’s love.

NEVER GIVE UP ON
THE PEOPLE YOU LOVE.

LOVE IS SO INCREDIBLY POWERFUL.

Life is
good.

Please share this message of love with everyone!

Natural face cream in a jar

By mati | Filed in Skincare

It is a fact – women love cream in jars! They look so cute in your bathroom, and you can see and smell the cream! However, natural face creams should never be in jars, unless the cream contains no water. Water equals mold and bacterias, which is bad news for your skin.

The reason why producers of toxic skincare products can get away with selling creams in jars is that they are full of parabens, sometimes 3 or 4 different ones. This is what it takes to deal with the daily contamination you cause by putting your fingers into the cream. It doesn’t matter if you wash your hands first – you are still going to contaminate the cream, and only parabens are strong enough to keep the bacterial growth at a level that doesn’t pose a health risk.

When it comes to natural cosmetics products, parabens are a no no, and we rely on natural preservatives, which don’t work like parabens. Parabens are anti-bacterial preservatives that actually kill bacterias in the cream, while natural preservatives work in a different way. Basically, natural preservatives work by making the cream unappealing and uninhabitable to the bacterias. However, this only works if the bacterial count is low. If you keep contaminating the cream on a daily basis, the bacterial count will eventually reach levels where they help each other stay alive, inspite of the natural preservative in the cream.

I tested this with lab tests before I chose what type of packaging to offer the product in. One of the products I tested was a jar of natural face cream that I used as a tester at a farmer’s market. All day long, people were taking out small amounts of cream with a stick and wiping it off on the back of their hands. After I got home, I tested the cream that was left in the jar, and even though nobody actually put their fingers in the jar, the cream was so full of bacterias that it shouldn’t be used on the skin at all.

This is when I changed my packaging. Now, I put thick creams, like the natural face cream with chamomile, and the chamomile body lotion, in recyclable airless containers instead. Yes, they are made from plastic, which is unfortunate, but at least they are recyclable, and the cream stays uncontaminated. I also tested one of these containers after using the cream for over a month, and it contained no bacerial growth.

Because I am comitted to creating products that are good for your health, I couldn’t possibly keep selling it in glass jars, since natural creams preserved with natural preservatives WILL end up getting contaminated. Keep this in mind, if you use natural face cream in a jar. NO JARS! Also, keep in mind, that if you have a problem with pimples and break outs, check to see if your face cream is in a jar. If so, that is part of your problem – you may be putting contaminated cream on your face that gets into your pores and causes infection!

So, be aware of the packaging, and stay away from jars, unless the product is just a waterless balm.

Under eye bags

By mati | Filed in Makeup Tips

Don’t you love it, when you wake up in the morning and look in the mirror, and the area under your eyes seems to have sagged a quarter inch over night! Sigh!

If you have gotten up early enough, you can lie down with slices of cucumber or wet chamomile bags on top of your eyelids, but if you don’t have the luxury of just lying around all day, there are still a few things you can do.

Puffy lower eyelids are caused by lack of circulation, which leads to lack of fluid drainage. So, when you put your eye moisturizer on below the eyes, dry tapping it in with your fingertips, instead of rubbing it. Not only is tapping better for the skin because it won’t stretch it out any more, but it will also create more circulation in the area and help the fluid drain.

If there is still some bagginess left after your little tapping massage, here is another trick that will help: Try putting a lighter concealer right under the bags. Remember, when light hits the face from above, it creates a light shadow below the bags. So, if you lighten this area up a bit, the shadow can become almost invisible and nobody will notice the bags.

Also, avoid making a harsh line under your eyes if you have puffy bags, as this will just draw more attention to your problem areas. It is better to line the top lashes and only put mascara on the top. This draws the attention upward instead.

Also, make sure you use blush on the apples of the cheeks. Nothing lights up a face as much as a fresh color of blush, subtly applied, of course. Top it off with some glossy natural lip tint and you’ll look as fresh as a rose. Enjoy your day!

Girly stuff

The other day, a friend of mine dropped by for a cup of tea. As we were sipping the tea, and chatting about this and that, she all of a sudden said: “You used to be blonde – how come you have eyebrows?” I said: “Eyebrows???” So she explained that when her hair started turning white, her eyebrows basically disappeared, leaving her face a bit bare. “Well,” I said, “I had to make sure my eyebrows matched my new red hair.” “But how?” she asked. “I’ll show you,” I said, “let’s go to the bathroom.”

We went to the bathroom and I showed her my secret – a very small tube of eyebrow tint from a company called Refectocil. “This is what I use,” I said, “do you want to try it? It only takes 5 minutes to do.” “Yes, oh yes!!!!” she answered, so we instantly got to work.

We put about 1/2 inch of cream into a tiny shot glass and mixed it with 3 drops of hydrogen peroxide. It has to be mixed until it changes color slightly and turns creamy, and then we applied the cream to our eyebrows with a small concealer brush. It looks scary rust colored when you put it on, but it doesn’t leave any red on the eyebrows after coloring.

We waited for 5 minutes, and then wiped it off with dry cotton. After wiping the color off with a dry wipe, we used moistened cotton to clean everything off properly, and voila – eyebrows! My friend looked in the mirror and started jumping up and down with excitement. It made such a difference, she couldn’t believe it!

Eyebrows are like frames around a picture – a face just doesn’t look the same without it. And, using an eye pencil usually doesn’t look very natural at all.

I can highly recommend Refectocil – the color we both used is called Light Brown, which is the perfect color for anyone with blondish hair. It has a warning on the tube that it can make you blind, so don’t get it in your eyes. But, it works in 5 minutes, and it lasts for over a month. Super easy solution, and nobody will know you are actually tinting your brows, because the result is so natural!

So, if you feel like your face needs a little bit of definition, this is a super easy solution! Just treat the cream with respect so you don’t hurt your eyes.

Awesome Eye Makeup

By mati | Filed in Makeup Tips

So, I tried a new eyemakeup from Maybelline called Eye Studio. I have always liked the idea of cream shadows because they blend in and look much more fresh and exciting than dry, boring powder shadow, but the problem with cream shadow is that it always creases and disappears before the end of the day. I had vowed not to waste my money again, so I don’t know how I ended up with this one, anyway. It was probably the irresistably pretty packaging…

Anyway, the one I bought has one whitish shadow, one pretty pink, and another browny tan. (I can’t remember the name of this color combo, since the name is on the little tag that you pick off when you open it – very dum).

The cream is easy to put on. Just run your finger over it lightly and smear over your eyelid. Super simple.

I like to use all 3 colors. If you have normal, basic eyes, put the pink on the eyelid, the brown on the browbone/crease, and the white as a highlighter. Protruding or prominent eyes must shift the colors to brown on the eyelid, pink on the browbone/crease and white under the brow. Deep set or hooded eyes need the colors in opposite order: White on the inner corner, pink on the outer half, brown on the browbone (but not the crease) and white under the brow.

The reason why the colors have to be switched around like this for different eye shapes is simple. Dark colors recedes, light colors bring forward. So this is why, protruding or prominent eyes should have dark color applied, while deep set or hooded eyes need light colors on the lids. Do it the other way around, and the effect is quite scary!

I have a friend with very deep set eyes, who loves using brown on her lids. The result is halloweeny – a pale face with dark, sunken eyes. Not flattering at all. Light color on the lid and dark on the brow bone, would balance her features and bring her eyes back “out of her skull” again.

Anyway, this cream shadow is slightly shimmery and super pretty. It definitely makes your eyes pop, and best of all, it doesn’t cake or end up in every crack before the day is over.

Top it off with a bit of eye liner pencil on the top lashes, and lots of mascara. My favorite mascara is still Maybelline’s Falsies – there is nothing quite like it! It gives your lashes so much volume that they actually look false when you are done, without any clumping. The waterproof Falsies stays on all day, even with sweating and exercising, and comes off easily at night, at least if you use my natural mascara remover, which is super easy to use.

Just rub some into the lashes, wait a minute, then wipe with moistened cotton. If some mascara remains, rub in some more and wipe with another piece of cotton, and leave any remains of the mascara remover on the skin. It conditions your eyelids, eye lashes and under eye area nicely overnight!

Thieves and Scoundrels

By mati | Filed in Skincare

This is the conclusion I came to yesterday when looking at antiaging skincare products! I went to Sephora to see what other companies charge for their products, and what they actually have listed on their labels, and what I found was very disheartening! How are people supposed to know what product that is worth the money that they shell out? Do you actually get what you pay for? Not necessarily…

First, you have to understand what the FDA rules for labeling are. The rule is that the company has to list the ingredients in order of how much is in the product. What this means is that you have to list the biggest amounts at the beginning of the label, and smaller and smaller amounts towards the back. Most companies use synthetic preservatives in a concentration of 0.5% or less. Therefore, if a company lists active ingredients after the perservative, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that you are being scammed.

Unfortunately, a company only has to add one drop of something to a formula to be able to put it on the label, and they don’t have to tell you how many percent of an active ingredient they actually did put into the product. It all comes down to how much profit they can make, of course, since they don’t want to disappoint their share holders, not to mention the fact that women are so easy to dupe…

The truth is, the only way to tell if the product you are paying for is worth its price, is by looking at where, on the label, the active ingredients are listed. You’ll be hard pressed to find a product that have active ingredients, such as peptides, hyaluronic acid, biofermented sea weed or micro algae extract, listed in the first third of the label, but that is where it needs to be if you actually want the product to make a difference on your skin.

When they test the effect of peptides, like argireline, the tests are often performed and found to work at 10% concentration. This is why, if a company puts in 0.5%, the product isn’t going to make a visible difference no matter how long you use it, even though they may be using ingredients that have been tested and found useful as antiaging actives. The problem is, these antiaging ingredients are unbelievably expensive, and if they were to put the proper amounts into their products, it would cut into their profits quite a bit. So, instead, they just put in a little bit and count on people’s ignorance, because they know that most people don’t bother to read the labels…

After reading numerous labels yesterday, I found that most of the labels were written in unpronouncable chemical language, and the active ingredients didn’t even show up until the last two lines on the label, often after the preservative. This is why I came to the conclusion that these companies are run by thieves and scoundrels! That is what I call it, if someone charges from $100-$200 for 1/2 oz of products that only contains a tiny percentage of active antiaging ingredients.

So, the next time you are shopping for an antiaging serum, don’t look at the price as a guide for how good the product is – look at the label. If you can’t read any of it, know well it is full of poisons. If the peptides and hyaluronate are listed at the end of the label, you might as well save your money and find a cheap solution in Walmart instead.

Obviously, I can see the need to create an alternative antiaging product, made with a generous amount of active ingredients and no poisonous chemicals, since there doesn’t seem to be anything out there that is worth its price. So, this is my next project – to create an antiaging peptides serum that contains enough peptides and other goodies that it will actually make a visible difference on you skin over time. In fact, the whole first part of the label should be all active ingredients.

Cancer, the new plague

By mati | Filed in Life
No Gravatar

Everywhere I go, I hear about someone who has just been diagnosed with cancer. My sister, my mother inlaw, the UPS driver, 2 of my friends…What is the deal? Is our environment so full of chemicals that the body simply can’t get rid of them quickly enough? Probably…
If you start reading labels in the supermarket, you’ll find that almost everything you can buy is full of harmful chemicals. Anything from skin care products and shampoos, to cereal, cookies, chips, and so on.

Well, you might think that a few chemicals don’t make that much of a difference. If it did, we would all end up with cancer, wouldn’t we? Not necessarily. When it comes to sickness, it isn’t just about chemicals in our environment, it is also about susceptibility. Basically, if we are not susceptible, we won’t get sick, it is as simple as that. This is why some smokers end up with lung cancer, and others don’t.

So, the question is, what makes us susceptible? Susceptibility to disease actually depends on our mental state. The mental and the physical are both part of form. There is no separation between the two – the physical is actually just a reflection of the mental state.

So, how does the mental state make people susceptible to getting cancer? Very simple! We live in a culture that is very high on expectations that we always have to try to live up to. Whether it is at work, at home, in our relationships or in regards to family expectations, our individual needs are often suppressed and forgotten. Nobody is perfect, but we often wish we were. We don’t like creating confrontations with people we know, and often times, we prefer to suppress our own needs just to keep the peace at any cost. However, this “peace-keeping” process costs a lot more than you think! It can cost you both your health and your life!

Cancer is basically caused by suppression of self – by always stuffing your own needs on the back burner. Eventually, there is so much stuff on there that you are ready to explode. However, at this point, you are so used to keeping “the lid on” that exploding is out of the question. So you keep pretending that everything is alright, and as a result, your cells become so fed up that they rebel and start growing wild, doing their own thing, and basically showing you what you should have been doing for your self all this time.

Scary thought, I know… Somehow, we are all suffering from the delusion that if anyone finds out what we are really thinking, and who we really are, nobody will like us. Strange…

What if we could all be free to be ourselves instead? No more suppressed honesty, no more suppressed creativity, no more holding back… Do you think the world would be a better place? Do you think less people would get sick? I sure do!

So, this is my vision for a better world: A place where people are encouraged to be themselves, and to express their divine selves any way they wish. A place where nobody would criticize anyone for being different. A place where traditional values and expectations would mean less than a person’s individual freedom to express themselves. Are you with me? If so, let’s spread these new ideas before it is too late!!!
